MONTGOMERY - Alabama lawmakers and their spouses may not raise money for charities or direct the legislators' discretionary money to boards they serve on, says the state Ethics Commission.
In an advisory opinion, the commission said it doesn't matter whether the legislator or his or her spouse serves in a non-paying position on a non-profit board. The commission, on a 5-0 vote Wednesday, issued the opinion at the request of Rep. John Rogers, D-Birmingham."
