Its the best service I have seen for tracking legislation.

Apparently, soon much of the information will be open and free to use as a research tool. Currently, www.StateSurge.com tracks Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Tennessee, and Federal legislation, but soon all 50 states will be integrated.

Keep up the good work!,

Senator32Larry Stendebachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13660295634034822840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6061518.post-1151503082822286212006-06-28T09:58:00.000-04:002006-06-28T09:58:00.000-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6061518.post-1151709091734327782006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:002006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:00Interesting website with a lot of resources and de...Interesting website with a lot of resources and detailed explanations.
»Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6061518.post-1151709086981769762006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:002006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:00Great site loved it alot, will come back and visit...Great site loved it alot, will come back and visit again.
»Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6061518.post-1151709081610893352006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:002006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:00Your website has a useful information for beginner...Your website has a useful information for beginners like me.
»Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6061518.post-1151709078425410892006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:002006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:00Hey what a great site keep up the work its excelle...Hey what a great site keep up the work its excellent.
»Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6061518.post-1151709077979814452006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:002006-06-30T19:11:00.000-04:00Nice colors. Whatever.

Grassley's infamous rainforest in Iowa may be a prime example of pork - sending money to questionable benefit to one's district. I'd like to think it is, just for fun.

But the timely issue in my gut is the continuing push of New Federalism to get programs out of the government and into "community based organizations." Local, state, and federal agencies are pushing ever-more programs down to CBO's, particularly in human services. Begging the question:

"OK. So who's going to pay for this stuff?"

Earmarks are increasingly a tool to get government funds into the hands of the CBO's who serve the most needy of our society. Is that a bad thing? Is the better alternative to have multiple organizations invest significant time and resources to ultimately fail in the federal "competitive" grants process?

In the best cases - maybe in most cases - earmarks are a more effient way for the government to fund services that society deems important. In other cases, probably not. But let's be sure we distinguish the two.

(Disclosure: my org receives federal and state earmarks.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
