Nonprofits set to pay more Boston taxes - BostonHerald.com

Nonprofits set to pay more Boston taxes - BostonHerald.com: "Boston is reportedly nearing a deal that could triple the money the city receives each year from colleges, hospitals and other nonprofits.

Boston City Councilor Steve Murphy told the Jamaica Plain Gazette that a new agreement could be finalized by early next year. When it is, he added, the city’s annual income could soar from $15 million a year to $45 million in the future.

Because of their nonprofit status, schools, hospitals, churches and civic groups are generally exempt from property taxes."
