Palo Alto's proposed business license tax would not apply to nonprofits, the city announced in a report Thursday.
The city council on June 22 voted to prepare a business tax for the Nov. 3 ballot that included nonprofits with 100 employees or more. But after some research, city staff found out that the state prohibits cities from imposing business taxes on any nonprofits that are otherwise exempt from income tax."
